GRACE
GRACE (Goal diRected, Accessible, & Evidence-based Care for Families affected by dementia) is a new way to support family carers and people living with dementia. It focuses on practical changes they can make and where to get extra help. GRACE was previously known as NIDUS (New Interventions for Independence in Dementia Studies).

GRACE is shown to help family carers and people with dementia
In a randomised controlled trial, clients receiving GRACE by video-call, phone or in-person were more likely to achieve the goals they set than those who didn’t receive GRACE.
Who is GRACE for?
GRACE involved six to eight meetings between a facilitator and the family carer alone or with the person living with dementia, depending on what works best for the family receiving it.

How was GRACE developed?
GRACE has been developed from the NIDUS-Family study. NIDUS-Family was designed with and for people affected by dementia and their families, prioritising their needs for living well at home. It’s centred on individualised goals set by the clients.

“This is the first post-diagnostic support programme which can be delivered remotely and without clinical training, acting as a lifeline to thousands of carers across the UK.“
